This coin's obverse pictures Napoleon Bonaparte (b1769-d1821) as Emperor with the laureated bust. At the base of the bust is the name DROZ. Below the base of the bust is the engraver's mark the signature Tiolier. The reverse has the denomination in the centre encircled by a wreath and the French legend EMPIRE FRANÇAIS (French Empire) with the date 1809 at the bottom with the mintmark A to the right (for the Paris mint) and the cock privy mark to the left. This was the first year that Bonaparte used the legend for the Empire.
