This coin's obverse pictures Napoleon Bonaparte (b1769-d1821) as First Consul.  At the base of the bust is the graveur général's mark the signature Tiolier for Pierre Joseph Tiolier. The reverse has the denomination in the centre encircled by a wreath and the French legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE (French Republic) with the date AN 12 (Year 12 - 1804) at the bottom with the mintmark A to the right (for the Paris mint) and the cock privy mark to the left. 


20 Francs - AN 12 - A - Type 2 - As Emperor

This coin's obverse pictures Napoleon Bonaparte (b1769-d1821) as Emperor.  At the base of the bust is the graveur général's mark the signature Tiolier for Pierre Joseph Tiolier.  The reverse has the denomination in the centre encircled by a wreath and the French legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE (French Republic) with the date AN 12 (Year 12 - 1804) at the bottom with the mintmark A to the right (for the Paris mint) and the cock privy mark to the left. Ironically, Bonaparte retained the French Republic after he was crowned Emperor (for a while).
