THE SECOND REPUBLIC  (1871 -1939)

 

100 Francs - 1879 - A

KM-832 - 32.258 g - 39 mm 

Mintage - 0,039M

This coin's obverse pictures Genius writing the Constitution n a slab on a pedestal.  REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE surrounds the figure at the top.  Fasces are to the left and a cock is to he right.  Below the base of the figure is the engraver's signature Dupre. The reverse has the denomination and the date 1879 in the centre encircled by a wreath which is, in turn, encircled by the motto LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE. The mintmark A is at the bottom (for the Paris mint) and the bee and anchor privy marks to the left and right, respectively.  


20 Francs - 1897 - A

This coin's obverse pictures Ceres.  REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE surrounds the bust.  Below the base of the bust is the engraver's name L. MERLEY.  A fasces is to the left of that and a leafy branch is to the right. The reverse has the denomination  10 FRANCS in the centre encircled by a wreath which, in turn, is encircled by the motto LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE. The mintmark A (for the Paris mint) above the date 1899 is below the wreath.  Privy marks of a sword are to the left and a torch to the right at the stems of the wreath.


10 Francs - 1911

KM-846 - 3.23 g - 19 mm

Mintage - 1,881M

This coin's obverse pictures the bust of Ceres.  REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE surrounds the figure at the sides.  The reverse has the Gallic cock encircled by the motto LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE. The denomination 10 Fcs flanks the cock's legs. The date 19112 is at the bottom and is flanked by the privy marks of a torch and a cornucopia.  The edge lettering on this coin reads DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE.


 

20 Francs - 1906

KM-847 - 6,452 g 0 21 mm

Mintage - 14,613M

This coin's obverse pictures the bust of Ceres.  REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE surrounds the figure at the sides.  The reverse has the Gallic cock encircled by the motto LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE. The denomination flanks the cock's legs. The date 1912 is at the bottom and is flanked by the privy marks of a torch and a cornucopia.  The edge lettering on this coin reads DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE.
