This coin's obverse pictures Ceres. REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE surrounds the bust. Below the base of the bust is the engraver's name L. MERLEY F. A fasces is to the left of that and a leafy branch is to the right. The reverse has the denomination 10 FRANCS in the centre encircled by a wreath which, in turn, is encircled by the motto LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE. The mintmark A (for the Paris mint) above the date 1851 is below the wreath. Privy marks of a dog's head are to the left and a hand to the right at the stems of the wreath.

Privy marks of a torch is to the left of that and an anchor is to the right. The reverse has the denomination 20 FRANCS and the date 1852 in the centre encircled by a wreath which, in turn, is encircled by the motto REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE. The mintmark A (for the Paris mint) is below the wreath.
