The obverse has the Mexican arms within a wreath with the Spanish legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS (Mexican United States) around the top. The reverse has the bust of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla (b1953-d1811) encircled by the denomination DIEZ PESOS, the mintmark M for the Mexico City mint, and the date 1959. Hidalgo was a Catholic parish priest who was one of the leaders of the war for independence that started in 1810. Later he was promoted to Captain General. He was ambushed in 1811and executed a few months later. This date's coins are mostly restrikes that were minted from 1961 to 1972.20 Pesos - 1959 - Mo

The reverse has the Aztec Calendar Stone encircled by the denomination VIENTE PESOS and the gold content 15 Gr ORO PURO (15 grams pure gold).
