floriated cross with a crownion each angle encircled by the legend

the reign of Francis I (b1494-d1547). The obverse has the arms of France and the
Dauphine with the Latin legend +FRANCIS:DEI:GRA:FRANCORVM:REX. The reverse has a
floriated cross with a crowned F in two quadrants encircled by the legend
XPS:VINCIT:XPS:REGNAT:XPS:IMPERAT.

The Louis d'Or was a long issued gold coin of royalist France. It is composed of 0,917 fine gold. This coin's obverse pictures King Louis XVI (b1765-d1793). His bust is encircled by the Latin legend LUD-XVI-D-G FR-ET-NAV-REX (Louis XVI, King of France and Navarre). Below the bust is the mint director's privy mark of five arrowed fasces (for Louis Naurissart de Forest). The reverse has the crowned shields with the the Latin legend CHRS-REGN-VINC-IMPER, the engraver's privy mark (cross for Jean Baptiste Daniel La Vallee) and the date 1788. Below the shields is the mintmark I for the Limoges mint.

Below the shields is the mintmark B for the Rouen mint. This coin shows adjustment marks on both sides. These are file marks where the planchet was overweight and mintworkers filed it down to remove the excess gold
